Do you have Questions?
We are here to help.
This is dependent on a number of variables, including but not limited to the size of the project that is being started, the other jobs that we already have scheduled. The weather/time of year can also be factors (if the project is an exterior one such as decks, siding, fences, etc.) inclement weather conditions can delay the start or progress of projects such as these.
This is all dependent on the size of the project. This is something that will be talked about during our initial meeting, once we have an idea of how big the project is. We will also do our best to keep you updated if that timeline changes throughout the process of your renovation.
We do try to ensure that we keep the work area as clean as we can, but there will probably be dust and other particles that will be generated by the work that we are doing. We do try to keep any mess created contained the renovation area. If there is going to be a significant amount of mess, we will let you know beforehand, this way you are able to move any valuables to prevent them from becoming dust covered. There is also the opportunity to use drop cloths to cover furniture or to put up plastic to help contain the area.
You should clear the renovation area of any personal items and furniture prior to the beginning of the project. This helps keep the area safe for yourself and the workers and also ensures that these items don’t get dirty or damaged during the process.
That depends on the project. There are some projects (such as flooring, trim work, custom closets, etc.) that do not require permits. This is something that we be assessed and decided on during the planning and quoting stages. A permit ensures that the renovation being done meets structural and safety requirements. An example of this would be zoning regulations for your area. If a permit is required this is something that will be taken care of early and regular inspections will be done to ensure the building code is being met.
In most cases the payment is not requested until after the project is completed to the standards of the homeowners and the contractors alike. Upon completion, an invoice will be sent via mail or delivered to you and we ask the payment be sent along within 30 days of receiving the invoice. This ensures you will avoid paying any interest. Invoices that are still outstanding after 45 days of being received are subject to 1.5% interest. If the project is large then we will require a contract to be signed by the homeowners and the contractor. The contract will clearly breakdown the stages of payment. This could include but not be limited to a down payment (required before work will begin), stage payments throughout the renovation process (if necessary) and a final payment, which would be due at the completion of the project.
Subcontractors are individuals or other companies that specialize in particular areas of the construction process. Some examples of this would be: plumbers, electricians, dry-wallers, and painters. Terry Todd Construction and Renovation has certain trades people whom we work with on a regular basis. They have been selected because they are local to the area and understand the level of craftsmanship and professionalism that we expect. Before undertaking any renovation project, if subcontractors are going to be required, we coordinate with them to figure out the details such as pricing for their materials and time, as well as a timeline for when they’d be available. The cost for the subcontractors is included and clearly outlined in your quote, therefore you will not need to pay them separately.
We have a home office, which is near the Windsor area. However, our initial meeting is usually held at the location where the work will be taking place. This will give us the opportunity to see the extent of the project at hand and discuss ideas.
Yes. If necessary we will provide you with a clearance letter from the Worker’s Compensation Board of Nova Scotia. This will indicate that our company has proper coverage, has met any and all payroll requirements and that all premiums required to date have been paid.
No. Since no two projects are exactly the same, we believe that an in-person meeting is important. Not only does it give you the opportunity to meet and get more comfortable with the person that we be responsible for your renovation project, it also gives us the opportunity to see the area(s) being worked on. This is important because it allows us to give you an accurate break down of how long the project will take, the subcontractors that will be required and most importantly, how much your project is going to cost.
It is also important to understand that you may not get a quote at the initial meeting. We often need to touch base with subcontractors to figure out pricing. We also need to price materials for your project. Once we have gathered all the relevant information we will put a quote together and either deliver it in person or send it via email.
We will look after removing any and all garbage caused by your renovation. This is something that will either be done throughout the renovation process or once the project has been completed, depending on the size of the project.
Like many other important decisions that come with a new construction or renovation choosing the right heat source for your space is crucial. When considering the heat source best suited for your space, there are several factors that need to be thought about and it's something that needs to be considered early on, so that it can be factored into the design of your renovation. Some important things to think about when considering your heat source are: How difficult will it be to heat in the winter? How cold does it get during the winter months where your construction will be? The square footage of the building? How many stories will it have? Does it require constant heat or heating only when in use?
Heat output is measured in BTUs or British Thermal Units. To get that number, you will need to know the how big the space is and how warm you want it to be. In order to ensure you're maximizing the heat in your garage space proper insulation is a huge component.
Heating source options include forced-air heating, ductless heating and cooling, in-floor heat, wood burning stoves, pellet stoves, heat pumps, fireplaces, furnaces and boilers.
